Different pump price: what should you do?
If the pump price does not match Régie Essence Québec or GazGain, here is the process recommended by the Régie.
The recommended process
- 1. Notify the merchant first. The Régie asks consumers to report the mismatch to the merchant concerned, because public prices must be entered by stations or their pricing centres.
- 2. Report the inaccuracy to the Régie. The Régie then invites consumers to use the reporting button in the selected station window on the Régie Essence Québec map. When you signal a price difference in GazGain, GazGain also sends that report to Régie Essence Québec.
- 3. Account for the update delay.According to the Régie, a price recorded in the merchant portal should appear on the public platform within a maximum of 5 minutes.
Why mismatches happen
Régie Essence Québec prices are supplied by merchants. If the real pump price changes before the station or its pricing centre updates the portal, the public price can temporarily lag.
GazGain's role
GazGain reads the Régie's public prices and calculates whether a detour is actually worth it. We do not replace the price posted at the pump, and we keep a report button when a price looks wrong.
Official source
The Régie says merchants must enter prices when they change and consumers can report an inaccuracy from its public map.
Compare carefully
GazGain helps identify interesting stations, then subtracts the cost of the detour. If a price looks too good or too old, check the pump before driving far.
